The use of views in the data dictionary
prevents you from referring to the
tables of the data dictionary directly.
This additional safeguard is important
- First, it underscores the sensitivity of
the tables that store dictionary data.
If something happens to the tables,
storing dictionary data, that should cause
either the data to be lost or the table
to be removed, the effects could seriously
damage the Oracle database.
- Second, the dictionary views distill
the information in the data dictionary into
something highly understandable.
