Citaj ovo na Srpski
The idea about "SlavicNet" was
born in March 1999. during the time
when NATO warplanes were pouring bombs on my motherland.
I happend on
demonstrations in front of Vancouver Art Gallery. I was holding
a Bulgarian flag, the same one that one Bulgarian fellow,
Michael, left us before moving to Prince Edward Island.
He said
to my Bulgarian friend, Nikola: "I never missed the
street demonstrations in last fifty days. Neither my
Bulgarian flag did. I am very sorry that I have to
go after my new job, but I trust you as my friend that
you are going to bring this flag every day on the
rallies, until the enemies of the World stop
bombing Yugoslavia."
I have to admit that I, on some way,
enjoyed the demonstrations. It was a nice picture
to see Serbian, Greek, formar
Yugoslavian, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Romanian, Russian and all
other flags together in the heart of a NATO country!
All Slavic countries and Greece were in one place. I felt
the power of the flags waving in the wind. I saw
confusion on some "local" faces because Serbia was not alone in the
war.
The war
stopped and Vancouverites turned back to their ordinary
lives. I tried to keep in touch with all my new friends.
I explained them I wanted to build a website with all
those flags in front of the Art Gallery on the main
page. So I did. But I couldn't do anything alone. My
Bulgarian friends, Nikola and Magdalina, and my Russian
friend, Andrei, helped me to implement my
vision.
It took me two years to build
English-Serbian-English dictionary. But,
any moment spent working on the
dictionary is worth of doing it! The dictionary is twice larger
than any other Slavic dictionary on the Web. Why
I started building the site from the
dictionary? I believe power is not in money; the real
power is in education. We can win wars and
keep the enemies away from us only by learning and being
together.
Because of that
reason “SlavicNet” is meant to be "A
Different Kind of a Web Site." First of all, it is
going to be an educational site. One day you will
find Serbian-Russian or Serbian-Bulgarian
dictionary on the site. You will be able to
download and install them on your computer for
FREE
. It is so because we are a bunch
of volunteers. It is so because we fight wars
with computers, not with machine guns and warplanes.
